Teledyne e2v has been producing turnkey focal plane arrays, camera systems, electronics and astronomical cameras for over 15 years. As part of our advanced system and instrument group we act as your partner to collaborate and develop the next generation of scientific products and technologies

Key features:

  • Exceptional flatness and thermal and mechanical stability of the focal plane
  • Fast read-out time
  • Extremely low noise
  • Excellent cooling stability over long durations
  • At its core the Teledyne e2v camera has a 450 mm focal plane made up of fourteen 9k x 9k pixel CCD290-99 back-thinned scientific image sensors
  • Anti-reflection coatings for maximum sensitivity
  • Twelve auxiliary image sensors for guiding and focusing (comprising four CCD47-20 Autoguider sensors, eight CCD44-82 Wavefront sensors)
  • Twenty two Drive Modules control the CCDs and process their output though Digital CDS (Correlated Double Sampling) readout electronics
  • The CCD drive modules contain 70 field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and 24 Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs) in 13 different designs to enable to read 2.4 GBytes of data/frame
  • Power and data handling electronics
  • The focal plane is contained in a custom cryogenic cooler with integrated electronic control (PLC) for cooling and vacuum systems control, which provides low noise and maximum sensitivity
Backthinning and Silicon Processing
(Wafer Fab) Services

Located in Chelmsford, Essex, UK, Teledyne e2v’s world class CCD and silicon processing fab acts as a global imaging capability for the image sensor industry. The backthinning lines for both 6 inch and 8 inch wafers are operated on a batch basis and allows for small to medium volumes of wafers to be processed with capacity to service third party companies needs in this technology.
