On Wednesday 6 December Teledyne e2v's EV12DS460 Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) was announced the winner of this year's Semiconductor Product of the Year Analog category at the Elektra Awards in London.
The Elektra Awards, established in 2014, have quickly become a key platform to celebrate outstanding achievements in the European electronics industry. This year saw 165 entries across 21 categories, with over 400 people in attendance. The newly released EV12DS460 from Teledyne e2v, (widely known as the world's first K-band DAC) was awarded Semiconductor Product of the Year Analog, in a category with seven other finalists from across Europe.
The panel of independent judges commended the EV12DS460 for its world-leading performance and noted that it can truly perform direct signal generation in very high microwave frequencies, removing the need for signal up-converters and offering size, weight and power benefits while reducing the cost of ownership of the system.
Nicolas Chantier, Director of Marketing for Teledyne e2v Semiconductors, commented, "We are absolutely delighted that the work of our world class data converter team has been recognised by such an event. The EV12DS460 is a symbol of our capabilities in the microwave domain, we invented the world's first microwave capable data converter over 20 years ago and designers of that device are still driving innovation with us today."
With the ability to directly operate at 26.5 GHz, the EV12DS460 is leading the way to a future of software defined microwave signal systems, reducing system requirements and design. This award not only recognises the performance of a world class DAC, but also the increasing demand to operate directly in the microwave domain, which Teledyne e2v is enabling.
