On Wednesday 18 October, Teledyne e2v was presented with two awards at the East of England regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2017.

The high performance technological company, whose largest UK site is based in Chelmsford, was named Large Employer of the Year for the East of England. This prestigious award was given in recognition of the quality and structure of Teledyne e2v's apprenticeship schemes, which have recently gained IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) accreditation.

Alison McGuinness, Head of HR Operations at Teledyne e2v, said: "I am very proud of our apprenticeship schemes and the investment we have made in key skills over the years. It is important that our schemes remain relevant to ensure we continue to attract good candidates year after year. This award recognises the fantastic work that our Apprentice Manager Chris Hawkins and the team do day in and day out to make this programme so successful."

Matthew Pike, Engineering Technician, who works in Teledyne e2v's Space Imaging division, was announced as the Regional winner of the Advanced Level Apprentice of the Year award in recognition of his outstanding achievements as an apprentice.

Upon receiving the award, Matthew said: ‘I am delighted to have won this award and am humbled by the amount of talent and knowledge surrounding me during this process. I chose an apprenticeship as I am a practical learner and prefer to see an application for the content I am learning becoming realised rather than just concentrating on the theory. Throughout the duration of my apprenticeship, my self-confidence has grown immeasurably – as well as learning how to communicate in a professional manner, I have been involved in some fascinating space projects. As of this year, I have taken on an additional role as an Apprentice Coordinator and I thoroughly look forward to continuing on a Higher apprenticeship, being sponsored through to degree over the next five years.’

The annual National Apprenticeship Awards, now in their fourteenth year, are run by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognise excellence in two areas: businesses that grow their own talent with apprentices, and apprentices who have made a significant contribution to their workplaces.

The National Apprenticeship Awards

Now in their 14th year, the National Apprenticeship Awards are an opportunity to highlight the many success stories and the benefits of apprenticeships.
